Yes, I could go and browse decorating forums, but I'd trust you guys to know rather than some random yank who's really trying to sell me something or impress me with his Youtube video making skills.

Its time to reseal the bath surround, we hardly ever use it as a bath but have daily showers, and I know from past experience that if I ignore it long enough, the kitchen ceiling collapses after getting tired of being wet through, which doesn't go down well with the Mrs.

The tiles are travertine, so stone rather than ceramic, and after a few years have gone slightly greasy / shiny, after a good cleanup using sugar soap, the masking tape doesn't seem keen on sticking, so sealant isn't going to stick well either. Any suggestions to clean it properly? At the moment I'm considering trying sandpaper or brake cleaner.

Try wetwipes from the baby section in the supermarket. Why they work I don’t know but they do!

Thanks for that - I went rooting in her warpaint drawer and found a pack, I'll have a go after lunch.

I don't know much about babies, but I know they aren't made of travertine! They must get covered in a similar sort of mouldy slime. They also probably don't like being cleaned with sandpaper or brake cleaner.

  4. Get some HG degreaser from the hardware store. Probabably a film of soap residue.

I think you are right, most babies don't like brake cleaner or sandpaper....until they get a bit older and get the old car bug.

Well I got the sealant to stick to the wall, I realised its not helped by a constant small leak from where the shower bar attaches to the hot and cold water feed through the wall.

Later in the week when the silicon is dry I'll take the shower bar off and go out for new washers. Not doing it now as I might flood the kitchen (again!). I also may get some of the degreaser that snotty recommended, if I can find a baby to test it on, that is.
