After a lot of soul searching i think its now got to a point where i'm gonna have to say goodbye to an old (t)rusty friend, my 1970 bug. :'( The old rust moths have been creaping through her cavities, slowly muching her away plus being brutally attacked by a so called volkswagen specialist years ago obviously didn't help as she's now so warped from bad repairs and being stuffed with filler and fibreglass that i honestly don't think she's savable. A few of her worst bits. Front 1/4 separating along seam: Top hinge rotten to the core: Bottom of door pillar (or whats left of it): The rust around the windscreen under the rubber now reaches 1/2 way up the pillars and the whole width of her scuttle: Badly plated crossmember: Floorpan missing some vital metal: She's had a good old innings. I've owned her since 1996. Maybe i'll make her into a beach buggy.
Tempted to make a LWB buggy if i can find a shell cheap enough. The chassis ain't actually that bad. The bit of missing floor is where i had a battery sat for a few years that tried to eat its way out to freedom. ;D
I reckon if i could find a donor bug to supply the scuttle, dashboard, lower windscreen pillars and top hinge mounting panels i could save it. Fran has said a beach buggy isn't practical as we don't have the weather for it plus as it'll be sat outside it'll turn into a cat toilet pretty quickly.
Its finding one that doesn't need the heater channels doing thats the problem. They usually got for £500 or more if they are solid.
