Rust bubbles

  1. After having a resto 5 or so years ago, there are a few bubbles starting to appear in the usual places and I was wondering whether it's best to let these go for a while and respray whole panels in one go in a few years or catch them early to save further damage to the metal.

I reckon option 2 as well. I've got a small area on mine and I'm going to sort it soon. Trouble is with these things is that you can't tell what's underneath the bubbles until you get at them.

  4. ..........and you have to think about how/why they have formed

if there is no damage to the outer paint surface then chances are moisture is causing the rust from inside the panel/box sections.

the best way to deal with it is to treat the external bubbling and repaint in combination with treating the hidden surfaces with cavity wax. This may involve drilling a few holes from inside your bus, inner faces of sills etc or using existing holes to inject the wax .........make sure you put bungs/plugs back in the holes to stop moisture getting in that way! ;D

if the bubbles are caused by stone chips then you can sort these out pretty easily :)

  5. Mighty oak from acorns my friend..rust never sleeps ...

  7. Rust bubbles are like icebergs most of it is below the surface

One little bubble will turn into a bigger hole once you start prodding and poking
