Running cables from back to the front of the bus - which route and how?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Fronkjunior, Jan 18, 2013.

  1. I am going to have my leisure battery in the engine bay, my electric hook up by the rear jacking point and my C-Tek battery charger located under the rock and roll bed. The 12 volt supply from here needs to go to the cab for the stereo, 12 volt socket, light and CB radio. So which is the best route for the cabling to run, under the bus or through the inside somewhere (how do you then get across the cab floor with it hidden somewhere?). Also, is it better to run one large cable from back to front and then have a fuse box under the dash to split into the separate supplies, or should I have a fuse box under the rock and roll bed and run 4 wires to the front? The first option seems better to me but what size cable should I use?

  2. Run the cables behind the door card on the non sliding door side, then through the bulkhead by the B pillar, under the front seat, under the cab carpet, up the totem into the dashboard.

If you have a twin slider like me, it has to go along the floor under the lino. :(

  3. Good question.

My preference would be to find or drill a hole under the RnR bed then run thw wires in PVC sleeving following the existing loom or other conduit up to the cab. You can cable tie it along the way and will keep the wires free from pinches and probably less work that routing internally.

  5. I found 7 core caravan cable was really useful for running wires for the leisure battery circuit. That way, you've got spares should you need them. Put the fusebox under the bed with the leisure battery, then run the cables from that.

  6. I ran mine under the bus in Copex (flexible plastic conduit) all clipped up to chassis rail and avoiding moving parts once you get near the front. very easy to do.

I'd have 2 fuse boxes, one under the bed and one up front. Run a 40amp wire (overkill probably) from the back to the front then take individuals from the front fuse box.

  9.
  10. So what size cable would I use to feed stereo, CB radio, interior lighting and 12v socket and what size fuse would I use at the leisure battery end?

  12. That's grand. Thanks for that and the other info for my 240v. Another question please. What fuses do I use at the front end of the bus for the feeds to 1. stereo 2. CB radio 3. West interior light 4. 12 lighter/accessory socket?

    Thanks again.

if using the same type of fuses as the van
white 8amp and a red 16amp for the socket
