Well, we have headed off on another road trip. We are staying in a tiny town called Stanley in nor west Tasmania for 10 weeks with lots of road trips. We came across from Melbourne to Devonport in the Spirit of Tasmania There is a bay in front of us, but sadly the owner wasn’t interested in talking to a T3/T25. Oh well. Stanley is a “one pub town” - but it’s a good one Stanley is at the foot of the Nut - a volcanic plug Coming into winter, so getting quite cold and blustery. Am guessing a bit like costal Scotland? Got our bikes, so doing lots of day rides with the dog (also called Stanley)
Great idea. I grew up in Melbourne and didn’t even think of popping over to Tazzy. Loads of missed opportunities while I was there. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,And I never got smarter just older
Went for a drive out to Arthur River and Marrawah yesterday. There is a beach there called “Edge of the World” It is the longest stretch horizontal of water to land. 15,000 km to Argentina. You are below Africa. There was petrol there, but a bit of a hike to the next place What sort of distances is it between fuel stops over your way? The pub had a good feed And my wife managed to spy this little fella on the roadside while driving He was waddling along on the road side but had “balled up” by the time we got a photo Hopefully we changed it’s mind about walking on roads
Walked up to the top of the Nut yesterday There are pademelons everywhere here. Got a couple good shots of them. They are like a small wallaby that is only in Tasmania There is a sea eagle that likes up the top. Just haven’t been able to get a picture yet
Wow, never heard of these guys before. Something new in just about every corner in Australia and they’re still finding new stuff all the time. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,keep making us jealous with your pics
Went back out to Marrawah to watch some surfing https://surfingtas.com/50th-anniversary-2025-rip-curl-west-coast-classic/ The roads down to the beach were horrendous. 4 wheel drive and nowhere to turn around. OK the first day- but gave up the 2nd time as the road was that bad Surf didn’t look the best. We saw on competitor had a kombi in the camp ground
Went back out for a drive in the Tarkine again - this time on the eastern side to a town called Waratah. The pub there is the Bischoff Hotel. Bit of a quirky sense of humour down that way Drive down was fantastic
Went for a walk around the lake after lunch And there, swimming around without a care in the world was half a dozen platypuses. In all my travels, I “think” I have seen one. And that was a fleeting glance that I convinced myself it was a platypus. Photos don’t do justice, but we watched these swimming around and diving for half an hour
Went for a boat trip on the Arthur River today. This is the river that flows out at the “Edge of the World” (see above) 2 families of sea eagles there no idea how my wife managed to get this picture with just here iPhone
Sheds!! We joined the local run club to keep in shape from all the food I’m eating. Maybe the beers as well. Maybe. Anyway, a new friend invited us around for drinks. A real decent home brew stout. But his shed is made of dreams. My wife and I are now planning what we can do with ours. Love the Scaletrix race set This our shed from a few years ago. A fair bit of landscaping added including a fire pit out to the side. But got a heap of ideas
Travelling around there is lots of road kill he in Tasmania. Doesn’t seem to get picked up either. Not to worry - it gets put to good use
