I got a gsf recon one about 4 or 5 years ago and it's still working well. (Cursed it now!) Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Came across this link a while ago and saved it for future reference. http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/cheap-starter-motors-68-75-76-models.44076/
I went through that thread a couple of months ago when I was after a new starter. Unfortunately none of the links bring anything up any more.
I had an old bosch starter that failed. Found a local dude to refurb it and fit a new solenoid. Total charge £40. No brainer compared to the £70 odd for a chinese replica.
I wonder what these guys do to "refurbish" them. New set of brushes and a lick of paint? They're unlikely to rewind the armature or stuff like that.
I mailed those guys last week - that's an aftermarket unit, gen Bosch they can supply though but £300+ ouch.
He's proper old school, been working from his garage for 35 years! I've only got his word for what he did of course.
Makes sense if it's a old gadge in his garage. I checked my old Bosch yesterday to see if I could cure its lack of enthusiasm. All is not well in the armature department . It'll go off to GSF as a core...
Ill have a search for a receipt in my inbox for ya- the links in the thread i referenced don't seem to work any more
The one I bought twice (after the first one set fire) was called the following on ebay. There are some similar on there at moment but all more than the £46 I paid for mine with a discount code they had on at the time. Again I would recommend getting an original one reconditioned for under £50 from someone who knows what they are doing rather than one of these but your choice 110363 BMW MARINE STARTER MOTOR 0001211012 LRS00133 LRS133 VW TRANSPORTER
Right, order restored in the starter department. Got one from GSF in Basinggrad for £81 after Bank Hol discount and return of old one. Appears to be a refurbished Bosch 091 unit. Whizzes like a good 'un on the starter test-o-matic. Well see how long it lasts...
