removing the rear tailgate springs?

  1. I'm planning on putting a new roof cut on my bus, and need to remove the rear tailgate spings,
i had a quick look at them and they look pretty highly sprung and complex.

before i barge in there and start taking bits off as i go... has anyone taken them off before and know a good way of removing/installing them??

    Carl.

Nail bar (take the strain) and unhook. Mind you fingers if you like them the shape they are. ;)

I know that's not a good explanation, but it's not an easy thing to describe. You might want to grind a groove into the nailbar to stop it slipping.

A crow bar... Any long steel unbending bar - there's a lot of force pre-loaded on the springs and you have to add even more to unhook them. Once you get the hang, it easy enough to get them on and off.

Sounds like you'll need an assistant to video it, and upload/ send to 'you've been framed' if necessary >:D
