Recommend me an R and R bed please

  1. I'm looking for a new rock and roller for my van.

As usual the old one isn't up to much from a safety point of view, functional as a bed and seat but not held down by much.

I need a full width, preferably with built in belts, as my van is a panel convert with added mounts in non original places.

Ideally after something with a heavy duty metal frame that I can weld in place.

    What would you all recommend?
I was looking at the Ashington.... But the firm may be shut as I can't get in touch with them.

    Thanks all

    Phil

  4. Sweet, thanks.

Do rustys allow the cushions and boards to be fixed to frame or do they have be loose.... Which really annoys me!

  5. Madmatz :)

Really easy action (which was important to me)

    Madmatz don't do then anymore
Waiting to hear back from Rustys, but looks pretty promising

Do Rusty's beds do the proper rock and roll action like westy hinges do?
I know from previous beds that having to start the "bed into seat" action by leaning over then lifting what becomes the top of the seat backrest is enough to put my back out!
I can do the Westy hinge ones with one hand standing outside the van. Bliss. I couldn't live with anything less.

  10. I went with the MadMatz for exactly that reason! My missus struggles with Rheumatoid arthritis, and the MM one is a breeze for her.

Rusty Lee's still great, but just more effort.

  12. So
So when you pull bed up and out, cushions stay fixed?

Yeah that’s right, they don’t move.

  14. Thanks, what thickness of cushion can I go up to. Do you supply foam?

The Rusty Lee works with four inch foam. Yeah we supply the foam

  16. Rusty Lee beds are good and i have one - but in hindight i`d have gone for a MadMatz as it has the proper rock & roll action using bed weight as a fulcrum to close the bed . Hard to describe but there`ll be vids out there showing the action .
As @zedders rightly says , with the Rusty Lee you`ve got to reach over and lift the back of the bed to close into a seat - not REALLY a problem unless you`ve got a dodgy back and mine has its moments o_O

  17. Thanks, how much for 4 inch foam, the 3x pieces please. I don't need covering as the wife wants to make some.

Lots are the same, I wasn't picking on RL. Devon beds don't R&R, a lot of the others are like jigsaw puzzles which is another thing entirely. Camping seems to involve a lot of activities that are not back friendly - driving there, being inside the bus full stop, sitting in carp chairs, getting a bit cold, making the bed back to a seat, driving home...By the time I'm making it bed to seat I've set myself up nicely for trouble! I'm not particularly tall or short - 6ft on the dot.

  19. You can resolve this.by fitting a strap in one corner
