Rear Wheel Bearings

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 75swampy, Aug 29, 2014.

  1. I can hear a wee rumble from the rear wheels when I'm reversing out the drive and pulling away slowly.

I've jacked it up with the handbreak off and there's a wee bit play top to bottom on both rear tyres, I guess more than there should be.

I removed the split pin and the nut is as tight as it should be.

Should I remove it all and pack the bearings with grease or replace the inner and outer bearings?

I have a fair idea of what to do. Is there a how to I can read or watch before I start stripping it down?

I want decent bearings, can I buy them from local motor factors or am I best to buy them from a VW camper 'specialists'?

    Any help or advice appreciated.
