Rear valance

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Bay_abroad, May 23, 2012.

  1. I'm just at the stage of fitting the inner rear valance, but when I put the engine lid on to check alignment it appears that the engine lid catch on the valance is to low, so it wont catch and engage properly with the engine lid. Is this a problem with after market inner rear valances? Are the catches supposed to be shimmed higher? I've replaced the rear 18 inches of the chassis on both sides with Schofields replacement parts and they appear to be aligned correctly. Anyone else had this problem?

add some packing pieces to the catch until it engages correctly - how far off is it?

  3. When you close the engine lid the catch just about touches the valance catch so probably at the most 5mm. It's just at the moment everything is tacked and before I commited I wanted to know if anyone else had come across this problem.

Sounds like you may have drifted out a bit repairing the rear chassis.
I thought the inner valance was a genuine VW part?

  6. I'd go by the gaps personally, unless the panels are pressed perfectly it's easy to get things a bit out of line. Put the engine lid on then, then move things till the gaps are correct, then weld it.

  7. Cheers for the input guys, after a bit of moving around I seem to have resolved the problem. I reckon when I weld the parts together properly they should fit correctly and remove the problem.
