Hi, all my rear brakes make a racket whilst I'm driving. Have I adjusted them too much, or will they bed in in time?
Everything is new drums shoes self adjusters.
Take a look and let me know, please. I've only done 30ish miles.

Have you fitted new backplates by any chance?

I fitted a pair to the rear of Major over the course of last winter & those made a similar sound. I had to fettle the lip on the drum slightly (from memory there was some rusty bits causing the sound).

They do look like they aren't spinning freely enough imo. It might be what @MorkC68 says that is causing the problem and/or it might be the shoe adjustment.

  5. Deffo backplates. Take the drums off and file any "crust" out of the slots. Then go for a 50-mile drive - they'll "file" themselves down...

These are 25 drums everything is 25 as mines a very latebay
It has self adjusters on I did originally have them withe that slightest drag but I assume the self adjusters did there thing I honestly don't know.
I'm going to take the drum off again and have another look... thing is the drum just slides off so easily I'm wondering if the hubs are a bit egg shaped.

I was fettling my rear brakes yesterday whilst I wait for some parts and so my feeling that yours were spinning less freely than I remember mine from yesterday.

  9. May still be rubbing on the backplates. They'll wear themselves down eventually. Mine did.

I can see a line around the drum looks like it is rubbing on the back plate.

  11. Could try just filing the rim of the drum? They will wear themselves in eventually. Tweaking the backplate is a bit of a hiding to nothing, like trying to saw the legs off a table to get it level.

I don't know why taptalk insists on putting the same picture on twice.[IMG][IMG]

I had this problem with my new rear backing plates. I found the edges of the fixing holes to the hub of new rear plates, are shallow ,so it’s closer to the drum. I spaced it out with washers.
Also, the new fronts ones I put on, the spacing is different between the fixing holes. The ‘C’ shape of it lined up fine, but the holes never. (Bought from JK, if that makes a difference). I just spent an hour on the pillar drill. On my Instagram.
    Fine.

Mine are T25 back plates and were relatively thick no flex in them like the ones I put on my 71 bay and fitted really well I bought them from Brickworks.

Which ones did you get? Brickwerks list them for more than £110 (out of stock now) and others at around £28.

Yes those incorrect fixing holes you discover after you painted them up ..

I would use the Force and try pulling the backing plates away from the drums. Takes a bit of work as the evil things will keep going like a Pringle, and the gap gets smaller at 90 degrees to where you pull but eventually it will get the hint.

  18. Had the same problem with mine when run for the first time with new backplates. You can see the raised portion of the plate (3 o clock at the edge of the shoe) being abraded by the drum. I ground a bit more metal from the backplate rather than the drums.

I'm just going to leave them to bed in as I said, only done 30ish miles it's just that draging metal on metal noise and people looking at you as you drive past.
