Rear brakes over heating

went for a nice long run and found the rear wheels very hot when I stopped.

Have adjusted everything and been for a test run. Should my brake drums still be getting hot? If I stick my finger thru the hole in the wheel?
Handbrake on 4 clicks
Wheels spin free slight scratchy noise on rotation.

How much braking did you do before you stopped and checked it ?

 

When I found the problem was on an a road for 20 miles no braking ish

Locally the average. I'll try a run down the motorway tomorrow
