  1. Good evening,
I've just stripped the rear brakes down on my bus to replace cylinders n shoes etc and I've cleaned all the back plate up with a wire brush and was just wondering is it worth me painting these inside with black hammerite or will it wear of and decontaminate the brakes after a while , do I just clean them up or would you recommend painting them ?
    Any advice welcome
    Regards Mike

  2. If you were @paradox, you would paint them...

If you were me, you would never consider it...

  3. Clean up the inside and leave as is. If the outside is a bit flakey then clean up and paint but to be honest it will only be cosmetic.

  4. Mine are still rusty

  5. Thanks for getting back quickly , right I will just clean up and put back then and just paint the outside of the drums .
    Cheers Mike

  8. Definitely clean ALL the rust off - it was loose rust that caused mine to bind and overheat on the M6 last year - lost my brakes after coming off the motorway and had to call out the RAC - he insisted that he took the rear brakes apart and cleaned them then and there - brilliant I have since taken them apart and given a good wire brushing with copper ease on the surface where the shoes are close to the plate.
