RAC call out query

  1. Coming back from Ludlow yesterday in the bus (T2 Crossover 1600) the engine started to splutter occasionally and finally conked out just near my house - I live at the bottom of a hill and freewheeled it home. It was raining hard and I thought something was wet. Turning the ignition it was completely dead, not even a click. No lights, dashboard etc. The battery was fine, fully charged. I couldn't work our what was wrong so called the RAC. He spent half an hour checking the battery, electrics (which he said were rubbish) but was stumped. Eventually he jacked up the bus so he could check the starter motor. Straight away he said that was the problem - the attachment leading to the battery was badly corroded. He cut it off, fitted a new spade connector and everything suddenly worked fine again. What I don't understand and would appreciate someone explaining, is why the lights and dash were all dead? Why would a bad connection from the battery to the starter result in no lights, no dash etc? Thanks John

  2. Cos the battery poitive goes straight to the starter positive and then all other (or most) live feeds are looped from that terminal. ie that is the main poistive terminal on your bus!

  3. Dicky is right. I discovered this when putting my engine back in and found nothing working. Put a new connector on and everything lit up!
