R & R bed with isofix

  1. Hi,

I was told the other day that you can buy rock and roll beds that have seatbelts built in that meet current crash test standards. Does anyone have any info or where to purchase? I need to get two child's booster seats and proper car seat all in a row so 3 belts needed.

    Cheers

  2. As far as I know that's only for the T4/5 market I haven't come across any that have for rear engined vans

  3. Isofix attach directly to the chassis in modern cars. I'm not aware (but im sure someone will be along to correct me...) that anyone has designed and crash tested mounts to meet the isofix standard for our aged VW's. Perhaps they're available on a T5? It's possible to install 2 3 point belts and a lap belt as standard in the rear, especially if your van was a factory mini bus as the mounting points are all there. If it is a converted panel van (some Devons etc) you will need to install the mounting points.
    :)

  4. Mine is a microbus conversion so it has anchor points on both sides at the rear but its the 3rd belt I don't know what to do about. The have to be proper seatbelts not lap ones to work with the car seats. Back to the drawing board then....

You can buy isofix mounts on eBay search for ford isofix. people have talked about installing these on a bay but as for safety.... Who knows

I think those anchor points are actually seat mounts.

You can get kid seats that work with lap belts.
    Can't see how you're going to fit 3 x 3 point belts.

the only way I can see of having 3 lots of full point belts is looking into a conversion from a car - some of the new cars have a roof mounted 3rd point particularly in people carriers, i'm not sure of the legality mot wise, but as we discussed the other day you don't have an obligation for rear belts in a van that old, I guess while the interior is empty it may be the best time to investigate, there is certainly a substantial pillar across the van but I don't think it's far enough back. You deffo have the mounting points required for 2 full belts and @davidoft on here sells the correct extender for the sides to make them high enough but the centre could be a struggle, even if you did do a bench seat on the front like you asked me about i'm still not sure there's a way of having 5 full belts in a van. I know @Moons did mention the bed conversion but I have to say I've not seen one for a bay but then again I've not really looked - I just have 2 lap belts in the rear and if we carry the grandkids we use the dogs as airbags.

  9. Front seat.

I've seen centre mounted 3 point belts either screwed to the seat back or the base of the cargo shelf. Not safe by any means.

I have a 2+1 seat arrangement in the front of my van with 3 point belts on the outer seats only. It could be possible to fit a centre 3 point belt, but again, I doubt it would be safe to do so.
    :)
