Quick question regarding welding the torsion hanger

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by exuptoy, Jan 20, 2013.

  1. I'm getting forever closer to replacing this rear chassis and I have left the bump
Stop mount/torsion tube hanger attached to my cut. Will it be ok to hack off the hanger from the bus to just leave the arm from the torsion tube then reweld the hanger torsion arm through the chassis hanger? The reason I ask is the torsion tube arm seems to be cast!

  2. Question is, can I weld this

    Anyone?

  3. dunno ,I have not got that bit on my bumpstops...

  4. I dont know whether to clean off the item below and just weld it back to my cut after removing the hanger.
    Anyone have an opinion?

  5. Is it cast? Run a grinder on it, if the sparks are normal (long) then it's probably a forging and will weld fine. If the sparks are tiny probably means its cast (high carbon content) and would be a weak (brittle) weld especially welding to mild steel. I never guarantee cast welding

  6. I have seen one bolted before with a couple of washers...

try running a weld on the hanger itself, you'll soon know if you can or not, if its cast it flares up and you get a really poor weld
