quick engine question. AB engine.

  1. I have been offered an AB engine just built for a customer and they don't want it.

    I understand it'll need a hanger bar adapter. other than that, fly wheel etc? should it be fine in my 77 bay.

  2. AB is a 1300 beetle engine so unless upgraded it will be underpowered also later bays normally had type 4 engines upto 2l, whats in it currently?

  3. As above, if it’s a straight AB it’ll be too small for your van.

  5. The engine code alone doesn't tell you a lot about the current spec. My case is an AB - originally a 1300 but 1600 P&Bs slot straight in, crank and flywheel are the same AFAIK. The only issue, as you mention above is the need for a hanger adapter plate which fits over the oil pump. Frowned upon by many but I've had no problems with it in many, many years and miles of use :thumbsup:

  8. Err it's not about fitting it's about weather it's an original 1300 AB beetle engine qed not powerful enough for a bus???

  11. If it's 1600 your good to go, what engine do you currently have as I believe the type 4 has a different engine hanger/tinware etc
