Puncture repair

I think this is in a place on the tyre you’re not supposed to repair.
Just asking for confirmation that’s correct or not?

It’s where the little bubble can be seen
Not on the side wall but on the shoulder of the tyre.

 

Googling says tyre centres will only repair a puncture on the central 3/4 of the tyre as outside this isn’t deemed safe

Ffs farmers and hedge flailing has cost me so many tyres over the years this one is only 2/3 months old

 

I had a slow puncture on one tyre, couldn't locate it, put sealant in,
been fine since, might do them all soon
May or may not help you..

 

I’ve a bottle of slime in the breakdown kit as well as the kit to drill out the tyre and fit one of those stringy inserts in that you cover in glue before fitting.

The thing is both those things are supposed to be temporary until you can get the tyre replaced

 

French cars have terrible electronics, i had a berlingo need the ecu resetting every month, as various things stopped working,

wouldn't buy another french car

 

When the garage suspected it was a control module causing an intermittent non starting fault on my berlingo they didn’t want to touch it at all.
His words were French electrics are Marmite

All good now though it was just a sticky solenoid on the starter

I can fully understand why the garage didn’t want to touch it as it could end up taking space in the garage for best part of a week trying to chase down an intermittent fault.
On an hourly rate it could have worked out expensive and they might not have got to the bottom of the problem.

I’ve put the spare on and put the punctured one back under the car.
I’ll get the garage to order a new tyre in and replace it when it goes in for a service and mot soon.
I don’t want to use tyre slime unless I absolutely need to as when I bought the Jimny and went for new tyres fitted three of the old tyres had slime in them
They charged me £20 a slime wheel to clean it up

 

Are you going to bath the other three whilst you are at it .

 

Not unless they deflate as well

 

Its just all luck when it comes to punctures ..know what you mean with hedge cutters , i have had bits fly off them and hit my motor .
It's when they cut them when the haven't been done for a few years chucking out big bits where the hawthorn spikes are really wooded .
I would turn around and avoid them .

 

It’s more or less unavoidable round here and they do not clean the road afterwards even though they are supposed to.

 

Don't let the garage do the tyre para. I was in the tyre trade for many years and unless you know the guy very well, you'll pay a lot more. Phone a couple of tyre shops for the best price and remember to ask if valve and balance is included.

 

...and imo, don't bother with the Nitrogen fill, air is 79% Nitrogen so what difference to tyre temperature an extra 21% is debatable!

 

All my tyres used to be inflated with nitrogen as that’s what we used to inflate aircraft tyres.

I wouldn’t pay extra for it on a car tyre though

 

My last big puncture i put slime it,
to get home,

when they changed it, they just wiped the wheel with a wet rag no charge

 

I think they were just trying to make as much money out of me as possible because I brought my own tyres in
I’ve never been back since

 

I miss having a mate who did it for free. Mainly because he was careful rather than the cost and put the weights on the back out of sight when I asked him to.

 

There’s a manual tyre changer down the workshop but I doubt I’m strong enough to use it anymore

 

Years ago I remember having a tyre with a slow puncture fixed by having an innertube fitted. Do they still do that? My last two punctured tyres had holes large enough to fit your finger in. One from a very deep pot hole in a country lane, and the other Mrs A couldn't quite explain.

 

Sod that anyway, I'd rather pay!
