prototype bay gearbox support

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by EggBoxes, Oct 29, 2020.

  1. I'm looking at getting a late bay up and over gearbox frame into my prototype bay to better support the gearbox for 1776 engine. I've got a late and early bell housings.
Is this sensible / usually when fitting you a bigger engine in an early.

  2. If you have an xo the support is already there
When it comes to gearboxes you just have to make sure that you install a gearbox with the ears on it
I think:thinking: some transmission specialist will be along soon :)

  3. I have a bell housing with ears that I can use - but early does not have the C frame.

I had a 135HP 2020cc and six rib in my 68 without that hanger. No problems.

  5. That smashed it.
Ok I will park that worry and get on with the engine

A late bay engine bar literally hangs on the chassis and gearbox is clamped under the torsion tube at the front so if all those nuts fell off so would the engine and box without this central hanger too.

Early bar is on top of chassis fixing and the front gb is also on top of a permsnent fitting, engine and box sit there with no bolts until you put them in.
