Hello! Next project is to fit my propex heater (then get it checked over by gas safe person). Showed missus where it was going to go (under the rock 'n' roll bed. Pretty standard stuff). But she wasn't happy at losing all that storage space. Which got me thinking about alternatives. We have a westy berlin layout and with two young kids and a dog we carry a lot of clobber. Chairs, beach shelter blah-de-blah. Most of which goes under the bed. Clothes cupboards full of, well.... clothes. Spare wheel cupboard behind driver full of tools, oil (which type?!) etc etc. So does anyone know of an alternative? I was thinking maybe the other spare wheel storage space in the rear near side cupboard and put a shelf above it. Or putting the chairs and stuff in a waterproof box on the roof rack. Bit of a faff though. The gas is supplied by an underslung tank which I'll T into from the hob supply I suspect.
Didn't some one on here manage to get it under the passenger seat? Mine is under the back seat, put there by the PO, if you can avoid that, do. You loose storage and having to empty the under seat locker to put the heater on, it's a right pain in the wotsits.
I did think this too, but thought i would be laughed off the forum! Do you think it could be fitted underslung? Anyone done this?
I was looking at between the front seats but there`s a lot of gubbins to miss underneath when it comes to the inlet and exhaust but i think @3901mick managed to squeeze it in ?? I settled for the bottom of a side cupboard ..
I think you can buy a propex that is specifically for external use Various people have fitted underslung heaters, not sure who has done underslung propex though
Under the back seat is the obvious spot...my gas tank in under the Bus, I would imagine the Propex might not be so happy there, longer term.
If Jim sees the tag, I'm sure he'll link to the pictures, twas very good. That propex has spent far longer sitting in sheds and being transported than it has doing any heating.
I am sure somebody boxed theirs where the belly pan fits, then it is not using storage space. But the Propex always strikes me as a bit tinny and not so weather proof as the likes of a Webasto or Eberspacher , both of which would work perfectly well under the belly pan.
Putting it in the walkway has the added bonus of having a vent pointing into cab and into rear, so you can boost your heat up front when driving.
But embarrassing but I can’t actually remember the make of my heater but it is similar to a propex. My actual heater is undertaking in a metal box with a small hole cut in the floor with the inlet and outlet poking into the can. My LPG gas tank is between the two front seats Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
