Propex question

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Starryboy, Apr 3, 2013.

  1. Right Birdy & Bertie have convinced me not to bother connecting the front up. The original heating works not bad in the cab anyways.

  2. I've got my propex mounted up front with a splitter so I have heat into the cab and also the back. I've put vents with closers on so I can concentrate the heat to the area I need it (its also my daily).

Chris do you find it increases condensation having the propex on?? Since fitting it l've noticed the increase when l go camping. Now looking to waxoyl the inner inner box sections of the bus.

  4. Hi Chris

Am I right that you have your mounted in a box between the front seats? If so then I bet it works a treat warming cab or bus. Mine is under the R&R hence the challenge getting warm air to the cab whilst driving.

  5. Hi Birdy, tbh I haven't camped since wintercamp, however I use the bus everyday and the condensation seems to have gone down. I use the propex most days driving to and from work and my windows don't seem as wet as last year :)

  6. Yes it does mate, I have a splitter, vent to the front and closure vent on the bit to the rear so just close that one for lots of warm air in the cab. :)

  7. Which gas to use? Butane, propane or LPG?

  8. Propane all the way Col, using in the winter months its a must.

  9. Is there a difference in burn temps? What about costings?

    Guess why I'm asking....... ;)

  10. Propane works at much lower temps - than butane, but butane is cheaper. If you don't use your van much in the real winter months it doesn't make much difference but if it cold (in the minus) and the butane starts to solidify then you ain't gonna get no heat :)

  11. Already got one on order, along with a few other treats.,....

  12. I run on autogas as I have an underslung Westy tank. Just read up on it and I have a propane butane mix apparently which may explain the odd erratic behaviour at very low temperatures.

  13. I had this problem with my butane bottle in the tent at the weekend it would hardly gas off at all in the morning
I filled my hotwater bottle from the campsite toilet taps put it next to my gas bottle and wrapped my sleeping bag round it
Ten mins later it was warm enough for me to use the cooker
Ill be upgrading to propane in the future but ive four half full bottles of butane to use up first

  14. Lol save your butane for summer camping/cooking Para, a couple of barbies and it will soon be gone :)

  15. I'd never realised that hot-water bottle had a rude word in it :D

  16. Nor had I

  17. contact Propex....the induction air may well be used to cool certain components before passing through the burner....I' don't know whether this is the case or not, but i'd find out first before chopping anything

  18. Managed to get hold of a Y shaped junction for the ducting with a lever that switches a flap back and forth:

Planning to hook up the lever to the dashboard controls.

The fan is too weak for a decent blower. Maybe an inline bilge blower?
