No, not the current Gen Z pronoun fad, I mean the ones you use for your van. We had a splitty and an EB when I was growing up, but I don’t recall giving them names or calling them ‘he’ or ‘she’. They were both just known as ‘the volks’ - essentially non-binary. It was similar for our first few vans. However, when we got our current van, straight away we decided to call it ‘her’ and gave her a woman’s name. No real reason, it just happened. That was until we went Scooby around 10 or 11 years ago, then ‘she’ became ‘he’ and its name changed. Perhaps we just felt it had become more masculine. Do other peops refer to their vans as ‘he’ or ‘she’ and why?
Our first one was ‘ the camper or the van’ our second one didn’t get called anything, our third one we called Rhubarb, our present camper we call ‘ the titanic’ the bay we own is ‘ Mary j Bilge’ but that’s the kids handle not something I would have thought of! All female in my mind as I love getting my fingers… Don’t worry I’ve given myself warning points
I subscribe to the fact that all cars I own are she/her. they’ve all had names (Frances, Lizzy, Mena, Poppy, Landyn, Davina and Fancy Nancy) and the names have generally meant something to that car…. Lizzy notably was named by the previous owner because the reg was gwL125Y and Landyn has a spurious story based on the number plate I’ve told before. all of that aside, I find there’s a strange attraction to cars… some I like, some I don’t, some are unobtainable, some make for good posters and most do things I don’t really understand… oh, and I’m not allowed to touch another man’s car. There are obvious comparisons to the opposite sex there!
