I had one of those. Three cylinder side valve engine with vacumn wipers which went slower the faster you go and a washer bottle powered by the spare wheel.
I think it also had a headlight main/dip switch on the floor but that may have been my mini.
I bought my prefect as a first car just after I joined the RAF and it cost me £15.

  7. Is that when they had spitfires and hurricanes :D I had a mk1 mini Cooper few years ago and that had a dim switch on the floor

  8. The origins of this model go back to 1932, before Spitfires and Hurricanes! Also a foot operated dip switch is the best place for it.

I found it awkward if you happened to be changing gear and and a car came round a bend. Your foots stuck on the clutch and you can't avoid dazzling the other driver.
The vacumn wipers were awful, at full throttle they almost stopped so I had to lift off the gas to get a wipe or two and then back onto the gas.
The washer bottle powered by the spare wheel always ensured that if you got a puncture the spare was flat.
Having said that, it was my first ever car and I remember it with affection.

  10. IMG_0671.JPG IMG_0674.JPG Hi
I take your point about the wipers, they are terrible but I like the dipswitch on the floor where most cars I drove in the sixties and seventies had them. However I don't go out in the Prefect in the rain or come to that at night!

I wouldn't if I still had mine either.*

** Thinks, 'cor I wish I'd kept all my old cars.
