Powder coating tinwear

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by dookie, Aug 23, 2020.

  1. Hi

So I'm replacing my engine, and while it's out I'm thinking of powder coating the tin wear. My question is " will powder coating it effect it in any way?" Is there any areas that have such a small tolerance that powder coating will cause an issue.

    Thanks

  3. That's nice. Can you see the oil leaks on the black? Or should I not expect oil leaks on a new engine

I suppose black would make it more difficult to see, but an oil leak to worry about will be seen on the ground. I wouldn’t expect oil leaks on a brand new engine . However if you’re buying a reconditioned unit, I’m told that machining of engine case faces can result in some ovaling of oil seal seats resulting in oil leaks.

  5. Powder coating is fine. You might have to chase out any threaded holes/nuts with an M6 tap.

Oil will wipe away easier, or just have it a different colour.
