possible ebay Scam

  1. So recieved an e-mail to my main work address last night of an ebay member saying

"I've reported you to the authorities for trying to scam me! Why are you ignoring my messages?"

Now I don't use this e-mail for ebay, so I thought this was a bit wierd as I haven't sold anything on ebay for a while, and when I searched my e-mail I have never recieved an e-mail of the username, So when I went back to the e-amil and clicked respond now it took me back to the log in page, even though I was still logged in to ebay on another tab. so I closed that down and went back to the other ebay tab.

I've now messaged of ebay the username who has over a 1000 emails asking if he was indeed trying to get hold of me or whether it is a scam.

Now my worry is that, By opening up the link "respond now" If it was a scam even though I haven't typed in any details, Can they get into my computer? Should I be worried?

    Scott

Now when I click on the respond now link it comes up with cannot display webpage. :-[

Personally I'd just run my anti-virus software and take it from there.
    It was probably just phishing.

If you didn't enter any of your log on details you should be ok dude, i'm on ebay quite a bit and every now and again you get this type of message. The ones i receive are usually based on the "ebay have frozen your account, log in to see why" etc etc...
Ebay will never send an email or message asking you to log in to your account so anything that does is usually from a phisher. You can forward anything that looks dodgy to spoof@email.co.uk and they will look into it to find the source..

  4. You didn't enter any details so the phishing attempt failed, however there may have been more than one attack vector on you and your computer, the fake web page could have also had some code in it trying to exploit a vulnerability in your browser to install some malware/trojan on your computer. If the software updates on your computer are up to date its unlikely this has happened, and as a another line of defence your anti virus should stop anything else, but nothing is 100% reliable.
update your virus definitions and run a full scan, also make sure all windows security updates are installed. Its also a good idea to run spybot and hijackthis, this this last one can be a little difficult to understand what should and shouldn't be running.
Also notice if anything seems different about your computer that could indicate issues, eg your home page or default search engine changing, computer running slower, icons in you task bar changing, you anti virus software not working properly, web pages being rediercted/blocked etc any of these things are indicators of some sort of infection
