Plumbing thread

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by the2ems, May 12, 2021.

  1. While you’re here, why does my tall designer radiator sometimes make a noise like debris passing through it? It’s not when heating up or cooling down. It happens at random times, every few days.

  2. Air in the system?
    Small person trapped in radiator?
Debris in the system? Sludge etc.
    Haunted house?

  3. Has anyone’s head spun around 360 degrees since this started?

    many signs of ectoplasm?

does the noise stop if you make the sign of the cross? I often tell radiators that I suspect might be possessed “the power of Christ compels you”. It can be surprisingly effective.

Its air . Get bleeding or you may find your "tall designer" has "designed-in" a "tall" airlock.

Theres also the thought of general junk in the pipes rolling around.

  6. I’m lead to believe that “junk” in America means something entirely different.

  7. Yep you don’t want your junk stuck in a radiator designer or not lol.

  9. PS There's air in your system somewhere. Give everything a good bleed.

  10. I hate myself for doing this but I’m going to have to give you a serious answer.

make sure your inhibitor is up to date. What people refer to as air often isn’t. It’s nitrogen from the chemical processes that occur in a heating system. Inhibitors er inhibit this.

Also if you’ve got a system with a header tank. Make sure it’s not dry. In other words the ball valve isn’t stuck.

I’m going for a shower. I feel unclean giving proper answers. I apologise.

    That takes ages.
Surely it's easier to drill a few holes in it.

  16. Thanks for all the responses/suggestions. I have been reliably informed by Mrs m, that it does indeed occurs when the boiler kicks in. I still don’t agree with that though, otherwise it would happen more often than it does. I did lots of bleeding after the rad was fitted, and the sounds didn’t start straight after fitting. But it definitely wasn’t there before. I’ll do some more bleeding, see what happens.

  17. Try opening the rad valve a little.

  18. It’s a TRV, so should I open the other side?

Our boiler has recently started “speaking in tongues “, am I right to suspect an infection by American TV Evangelists? Is there anything I can do?
