please help me start busby:-

  1. Finally got my petrol leak sorted had to drain the tank. Put fuel back in as it looked ok, no bits.
It started first of all but wouldn't tick over and when you tried to give it more throttle it would start to die. Now it wont start at all but turns over really fast like it wants to start and when you try to give it throttle it turns slower and sounds like its not going to start. I've cleaned the plugs so far that's all but everything is new on her as in points plugs etc. And she was running before this. Please help :-

have you got a mechanical fuel pump or electric

  3. Its mechanical, I just put new gaskets and flange on it and its working fine as in push plunger fuel shoots out.

    hmmm!

    jets blocked on the carb?

    plugs sparking?

  5. It is sparking, how can I unblock jets?

    dunno mate, someone will know!!

  7. Maybe the jet in the carb. became clogged before you cleaned out tank. Sounds like no gas to heads. Try spraying bit of gas or starter fluid in the intake, to see if the motor trays to start on that. If so it's dirt in jet in carb.

  8. Easiest way to clean jets is to take off the top of the carb. and clean out the reserve, and blow through the jet while you have it off.

  9. I'll take the air box off now and report back

  10. As a very crude test, pour an eggcup-full of fuel down the carb, with throttle open. If it starts(-ish), would indicate that your carb is maybe bunged up.

  11. Right got the plastic tops off the twin carbs. I got a flap and when you open it you got a brass stud with a hole in it and a brass screw that's at an angle that looks like you can't get it out.

  13. :) its ironic I put all the fuel back in the tank not a drop to try it :-(

  14. Try spraying some ? WD-40 or carb. cleaner, starter fluide or. Something that will light(burn) if the cylinders are getting spark. I've even rolled the motor over with the fule line running into a cut off pop can. then dump some down the carb. throat. Try rolling it over again. If it kicks then it's needing fuel in the carb. if it does not kick I'd look at stark next.

Hmm .. you say you fitted new points and then it slows down when you open the throttle and it is turning over...

Is the timing right .. you did tighten the screw on the points after you adjusted the points gap ..? it could perhaps be just occasionally firing far too early and effectively pushing the pistons back down before they go over the top into the power stroke.

  16. Here's an update just to wrap this one up guys. Had an old mate of mine Paul call around to take a look. He's a mechanic and he's been brought up on type2's still got a couple. Anyway, I had the two pipes mixed up going into the petrol pump and that's why it started initially. My spark is a bit weak too which didn't help things, so new coil needed there. Well once the pipes were put right she fired up in a few seconds and now were back on the road yeehah! Thanks for all the input and suggestions ;D
