It's there for a reason. The T4 fan has almighty power to suck. That simple cover plate sits near the exhaust. Not right on it or part of it but the heat from an exhaust and engine will get dragged through it and recirculated into the cooling air. It's also why the cover plate around the alternator is important. It's not life and death (mine had both bits missing for 3 years) but its nice to know I've now sealed it how Volkswagen intended. It is however more important to have the foam seal around the engine than those 2 bits. I'll post up my template later hen I'm at the big machine. Easy peasy to make. And will save you $22.

As promised. l would advise that you make the tag for the screw hole larger and adjust to size when nearer completion. Tinware comes in all sorts of various states of fit. My screw hole might not be right for yours. *I've just noticed that the template is actually backwards. Cut it out and you'll see what l mean. It just means you'll have to bend the screw screw hole towards you and not away.
£16.60 can't be bad. I bet some people charge £20 for the small plastic thing that falls off. Keep us posted when it arrives. I may treat my bus to one.
