Phone and email records to be stored in new Government plan

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by b0dyr0ck2006, Feb 19, 2012.

  1. To be honest I dont really care .... I dont see it as an invasion of privacy and it wont stop me sending the same emails/PMs/Tweets etc that I do.

I very very much doubt something like this will ever go ahead - and unless you are a terrorist - you have nothing to hide.

  5. You don't give info on the phone when you call your bank?
That will be recorded and stored.

  7. Ok I forgot they changed that, you get what I mean though.

Unfortunately though the attitude of 'it doesn't effect me' ultimately will get these acts passed, then the Internet will be moderated heavily. Look at china, no freedom of speech. It is not a good thing how ever you look at it.

Please do some of your own research.

  11. Ok so you have researched on the eu commission site, the very people that have been discussing this behind closed doors. What they have written is damage limitation.

Even an mep who was involved in writting up the act has resigned due to the looseness of terms and potential damage it can cause.

I'm not a bandwagon jumper or trying to encourage fear, only trying to inform.

Moons, civil liberties and copyright are completely different but both are effected by this act. I'm all for clamping down on copyright infringement as long as it is implemented correctly. All of these acts have been drawn up and pushed by the MPAA and RPAA so they can claim more money, not for the artists but for themselves.

  13. I think all three acts and any more that are being drawn up now are unthought out and liable to misuse.

And who is going to bear the brunt of all this new infrastructure that's going to need to be build? The consumer

I thought the onus was to get the providers to store it themselves...

Just giving an example of what is useful and what isn't - look at your own profile stats on here - think about how this site tracks information and what drives those stats to be updated.

Is that info of any use to anyone - negligible I would imagine.

Even to an employer - as I would imagine it would be counter balanced by your activity on other sites/applications (that are hopefully work related).

Even the trend programs can be fooled into false conclusions - so I am unsure data logging per se is a big deal if you behave yourself.

  16. Security services have been monitoring calls (including mobile) for years. Based on trigger words that are held by the boys in Cheltenham they then either decide to investigate or ignore. Its why they have so many computers down there.

Costs of storage alone ( and I work in that industry) will means this will never get off the boards and i doubt they would get it passed.

    Funny thread though

  19. It's totally businesses trying to buy power. I'm just worried its going to back fire big time. Also cleverly written in these acts is if politicians sign them there is a clause that stops governments from removing the acts from law at a later date.

I know your not disagreeing with me mate I'm just concerned people are not taking this seriously enough.

And it's not tin hat syndrome. ;)
