Us 40 summats might be ok with the baby boom we re having at the mo. Plenty of wage slaves working for our pensions. If it were that simple.
my late father in laws pension was more than i used to earn in a year. we are both now self employed running 2 businesses and have a financial advisor who we actually trust so hope to retire and be able to eat... one day. just gained a personal mechanic, as a friend who runs a garage we use decided to retire, he's only 54 or 55 yrs old...........swine i say. every cloud has a silver lining i supose
pensions? that's a laugh - i have a deffered one from when i worked at lucas's but it's worth shag all really, i started a personal one when i finished there but when things got tight a few years ago i stopped paying into it, when i got divorced in 2006 i mortgaged myself to the hilt to keep my house and have to work until i'm 65 just to pay that - personally i'm glad they upped the retirement age - i just hope i'm fit enough to work in 20 years then i might be able to have a couple of years with some money lol
same here ,but I kinda want to carry on with the work I like ,I have big plans when I "retire" it is the start of another adventure...
Depressing innit? And I'm always mindful of not even making it to pension age - my father-in-law (who I never met) didn't make it to 60 so in a way it seems daft putting all your eggs in one basket and saving up for retiring. On the other hand, who wants to be in poverty for 20 years if they do have a long life. Crystal ball needed, methinks...
I don't need a crystal ball, if I'd saved for a pension the ex would have nicked half of it so I'm glad I didn't. Not worth trying now, but I'll buy a small house to rent out. Conversly a mate has put heaps of cash into a personal pension and the pot is less than the total he's put in - he'd have been better off stuffing tenners under the matress.
Lots of people in that position now. Paid into one for 17 yeras, worth *****all now and to top that, had a letter the other week saying i'll have to work till i'm 66. Yeah, right !!!
Our buses have to carry on until they fall over, so why shouldn't we ? I reckon everyone should have some kind on plan, albeit a company or personal pension, property or whatever you feel confident in, but then live for today. I used to always look at a 5, 10 and 20 year plan until recently. Things change and you realise NOW is the most important time.
I'm going to spend the next 20 years building the ultimate rot proof Bus with my 'pension money' then live in it until I die (probably 20 years and 1 month knowing my luck).
Hindsight, being a wonderfull thing, if i'd have not paid into a pension starting in 1976 for 17 years and instead started buying old splitscreen & bay vans along with an old barn (affordable back then) i'd be able to retire now. What a dick
im semi retarded now , i worked my nuts off self employed for over 30 years n saw people i loved and cared about die before they reached retirement and not long after, so, i worked a plan out set myself a budget per year and started to have a life outside of work too, trubble is i didnt think id last this long
