Over Wintering My Van

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Violetta, Nov 20, 2012.

  1. Hi - I'm in Gloucester and looking for somewhere to overwinter my van. I don't have a drive and I don't want it out on the road in the very bad weather.
    I've got 3 questions:
    1) Anyone know of someone with a garage, barn or outbuilding who would allow me to stand it for a small fee?
    2) Advice on what I should consider if I'm leaving it for a while? Although I do intend to start it up every couple of weeks. (I am completely green technically but do intend to learn so don't be afraid to point out the obvious.
    3) When it is under cover should I also cover it with something? If yes what is best to use?
    Thanks in advance.

  2. 1, Dont know, try local farms?
2, take the battery off and bring it home and leave it on a trickle charge, or a battery conditioner charger, or just put it on charge for a bit every month or so depending on what sort of charger you have. Some people recommend rolling the wheels every months or so so there not sitting on the same bit of rubber causing a flat spot.
3, If its under cover I'd have thought that it would be best to not cover it so air can circulate and get rid of any condensation that forms.

  3. We found winter storage for ours on the cassoa.co.uk website - do a search for your area, and you might find something suitable :)

  4. I've googled for and there is one but I'm hoping for one a little closer to my home so that I can go and start it up occasionally and just give it a bit of love from time to time. :D
