Outwell awning connections to pop-top

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by nicko_1982, Jul 22, 2012.

  1. I have bought the country road (Outwell) driveaway awning, but the pole to connect to the van doesn't sit well in the gutter as the pop-top roof sits just next to the gutter.

I have seen the videos on JK website but there is nowhere to attach the velcro straps too.
The only other option is the awning suction clamps - has anyone used these ? any good? or will I have to but a new pole etc for these? and do they sit on new painted vans?

    Cheers guys

  2. On our devon the pole squeezes into the gutter tight and is held in place by the pop top, purely coincidence i think
if yours wont clip in then there is a channel you can bye it is shaped like 2 letter c"s back to back thy are 1 meter in lengths, you need 2. thy slide along the seem that the pole fits into and clip onto the the gutter.i got them from a caravan shop but i thin ck JK may sell them.

I have these clamps, and mine is not an Outwell awning but it has 2 options to put it onto a camper. A thin bead that pushes into a figure of 8 type thing or a metal pole, I put the clamps onto this as per the pic.(just took the pic whilst we are camping!)

We've got a khyam awning with a bead sewn in for attaching to the figure of 8 poles, I don't think you can use the figure of 8 without this bead. That said, our experience with the figure of 8 attachment was that it was useless as soon as we got a bit of a breeze, sonow we just use the pole and clamps. If you're pole is too thick for the available space in the gutter, have you thought about buying a thinner pole? Camping supply shops usually sell pole sets for tents, you may find one of those will work. :)
