FOR SALE Our beloved 1972 Bay Window Mavis

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by dan H, Feb 5, 2015.

  1. Due to unforseen financial circumstances we have decided to sell our 72 baywindow, belive me it doesnt feel great writing this as I have put a lot of love and money into her, but things change and the family need the money.

As you will find from previous posts we were in the process of doing some restortion work.
mavis has just came back from the garage at the weekend where all the front valance was replaced and the drivers side arch.

She is solid underneath and before we had plans to sell i was planning on undersealing it.
This can still be done but i would prefer not too as i would rather you can see under clearley when we have people viewing.
The only other welding that needs to be done is a area near the engine bay, and there is a spot on the passenger side which will need attention.

The other restoration plans were cosmetic. we planned on replacing the headliner and the floor and some paintwork to the dash, etc. these are all by no means shabby we just fancied doing them more to our tastes.
We also fitted the interior ourselves, which is very basic and relaxed, definetly 'hippy van ' style, and is very workable as it is but also very easy to take out, so in theory you could have a blank canvas to create whatever interior you want.

    Good Points Of Mavis.....
Very reliable, the only time we have broken down was in glastonbury on a road trip, we discovered we needed a new coil, which we fitted brand new and have a little trouble when we stayed at the lakes, (realise now it may have been the ignition wiring) We completed around 2500 miles last year, including a long trip to cornwall with no problems at all.
She has been a daily drive for us, getting us to surf every weekend without a problem.
Engine was taken out and taken apart, cleaned and all fuel lines replaced in september, and lots of bits replaced and full engine bay protected and painted.
Great stereo, with bluetooth, good speakers and also runs off a seperate lesuire battery so can listen to music while camping etc.
lovely looking clean interior, ready to go as she is, complete with 3/4 rock and roll bed, which is only a few years old.
Window seals only replaced last year.
New window winder handles replaced and mechanism on passenger side which is sticking again, I plan to lubricate this so hopefully should fix it.
She has been well looked after in the time we have had her, kept in garage, thing replaced as needed such as wing mirrors, inner door panels, etc.

    Now for the bad points...
We did have plans for cosmetic repairs, major one being a respray, it by no means looks desperate it was just something we had planned for the future and would add lots of value to van and she would look amazing!!!
There is a couple of minor welding points that need doing, we have done the biggest welding job, which was to replace front valance as mentioned above....
I have reflected this in the price of the van.
There is a slight knocking from under the van when turning, but we are lead to beleive it may be the cv boots.

With this work done to her, it would take her from a lovely reliable van, to show quality, and it would be great for her to go to someone who can give her the love and attention she needs, it pains us that we do not have the funds to do this as we know she will be worth so much more with this work done.

we are based in Teesside, middlesbrough but could potentially meet somewhere, viewing is a must I insist on it.

We are looking for as close to £10,000 as possible we have spent way more on her than that and regret that we will be losing money on her, please no time wasters.

We have loads of receipts past Mots etc in a big file, and its TAX free and she is mot'd untill july 20

If any more photo's are needed just let me know,

    Thanks for reading
