This is our '70 fiat 500, Bubble. The story goes: Once upon a time, my brother in law, who is French, downsized his home and needed somewhere to store all his extra belongings. He found a lockup for sale locally and was desperate to get his stuff in; in the same vain, the previous owners were in a rush to move out and, to save them finding somewhere to store the funny little car in the corner, they offered it with the lockup for an extra 50 Francs. It had been sat in the same spot since 1983, and remained there, covered in boxes and providing shelter for a destitute family of mice (so destitute, it would seem, that they took upon eating their own home - the evidence of this still remains in the half nibbled rear seat!) untill about ten or 11 years ago when I was asked if I'd like it as a project... "yes, please!" I said, and travelled over with a trailer to rescue her. Anyway, in that time she has blown about three second hand engines (she's been kept on a bit of a budget) but is now running a slightly larger 126 lump and 'box modified with an early Panda head and carb. She now goes up hills Sadly, though, she isn't getting much use these days (she was my daily drive in Bristol, down here in Cornwall it's a bit different...) and has started to look a little bedraggled. I'll give her one last bit of love in the near future before sending her on her way to help fund a Jurgens Autovilla - both and Somewher I've got pics of her initial resto - when I find them I'll stick them up.
Well now you have us hooked, where is the rest of the story! She runs, she idles, she, she , she what I can't stand it. LOL
Want eyes! Love these little cars, almost as much character as a VW (she runs and peeps round the corner of the sofa).
That is my wife's wish list car. she has asked me to buy her one (in yellow too!) but i haven't found one at the right price yet (in yellow anyway). was hoping to find one for her birthday in April this year.
I don't really have a budget @Moo but I just think all the ones I have seen so far have been so over priced. Where are you located?
