If you were to think of one place in the country which would send a pie into space you think of Wigan and now they have done it. The pie at night: Meat and potato treat 'sent into space' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-38329846 Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Pies have gravy in them already. Fair enough if eating with chips or mash extra gravy, but a pie on it's own has enough, that's the beauty
Obviously a southern middle class softie then that uses a plate at every meal. Pies and pasties are designed to be eaten by workin folk by hand. Gravy is fer Sundays!
I remember going to Blackburn market a few years ago and was gobsmacked by the number of varieties of pies, even Butter Pies if I remember correctly.
When the guys come down from The pemberton caravan factory in Wigan They complain about the dry pies the chippy sells with no gravy When they ask for gravy they get puzzled looks from the assistant Don't you do outt moist wit pie? I don't want curry sauce wit pie!
Its like that with fishcakes as well - in Leeds they are pieces of fish sandwiched between two layers of sliced potatoes, covered in batter and then fried. I might be biased but they're the best.
pea pies too! I love a butter pie, a pea pie and....... dare I say it a good helping of gravy. but of course that a posh meal for and Accy lad like me!
My Uncle Ken was the head baker at Hollands Pies for many a year and responsible for many of their prize winning speciality pies. Many a complimentary pie arrived at the Dickies household when I were a lad. Still hot from the oven! http://www.hollandspies.co.uk/our-pies/pie-range/
First time I ordered a fish cake in Sheffield I was about to send it back! Apparently up here they call a fish cake a rissole!!
