For Barry Haynes and anyone else fond of old Fords - Salvage Hunters Classic Cars - Cortina:
Watched that other night, what's wrong with Drew( silly question), he loves the patina on antiques to the point where I'd be reluctant to sit on some of his restored chairs, yet he wants to paint every car that comes into the garage...and generally black ! The Saab was a gem...the Ford was as I understand most imported South African vehicles are, lovely bodywork, crap mechanicals.
I did wonder that, but I suppose its all about Drew making a profit. Genuine antiques with patina are probably worth more as is, but we do love a nice car with new paintwork.
Sorry @Gingerbus I forgot to thank you for the heads up, I did watch it and it was fantastic I'd love a Cortina but I'd miss the carp bus and I'm only allowed one
I begrudgingly think Drew often seems to know what’s good about most of the old cars they procure but sometimes has strange ideas of what to do with them. The other feller manages to reign him in from time to time as he’s a little more sensible. But then they’re the ones making money out of it so they must know the market.
And you’re saving up to rip the heart out of it and put a Scooby lump in the back aren’t you. Keep your hands off mine, it’s staying in the Scooby!
Can’t you ‘do a @Terrordales ’ and hide one under a tarp? or, and bear with me here, you buy one (pref mk1 lotus) and I’ll look after it for you. If it ‘helps’ I’ll take it out regularly to keep it ticking over and the battery topped up. You’re welcome ps - garages around here are expensive so please budget appropriately!
Mate of mine, Craig, has an Old Ford, and a really Old Ford. His dad had an old Ford too, now he spends his time building choppers.
His dad, was a great engineer. He built Fords and raced them sometimes. He died about 4 years ago, of bowel cancer at 59. He was a great man. His Son has taken over in his engineering and car building.
Got a bit of a soft spot for Mk2 'Tinas. As I might have mentioned elsewhere my Dad bought a 1500 in Saluki Bronze EEO477E new from the Ford dealers in Barrow in Furness and it was a dog, but I thought it was great. In 1973(ish) I helped my neighbour strip and rebuild the engine in his 1600E. The Mk2 was bigger and heavier than the Mk1 and never had the competition pedigree but, in my eyes, was a much better looking motor. I'd have a 1600E or a Cortina Lotus in my collection were I ever to have a barn big enough to keep everything in....
