Oil Warning Light Type 4 Engine

  1. I have just replaced the oil pressure switch on my van (as well as the oil, filter and strainer) after about 6 months or so of the light not working. Now it goes off very quickly on start up but after a while of driving it comes on momentarily when I stop and even on right hand bends when going slow. If I blip the throttle on tick over it remains off. It is a GSF unit and these things are not very dear. The unit operates from 0.15 - 0.35 bar which is very low pressure (about 2 - 5 psi).

    A) Could it be an inaccurate unit?
    B) Is it anything to worry about?

The handbook I have says occasional flickering after a spell of fast driving is no cause for alarm.

    What are other peoples experiences?

  2. Ours goes off after a few seconds on start up and doesn't light up again.

what Keith & Trudy said.....mine only ever came on going around a corner when the oil level was low due to leaks from pushrod tubes.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

    Beat me to it.

  5. It should stay off. I'd swap it for another - it's likely the switch. Your engine sounds fine.
