oil pump removal

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Diddymen, May 27, 2013.

  1. just reading the Bently manual and it says I need a special puller to remove the oil pump

    ......which I have not got

the rear seal is leaking so I want to remove the pump and replace seal

is there an easy(ish) way of removing it without splitting the case and causing more leaks?

    (1600 engine BTW)

    cheers :)

do I have to loosen any other nuts?

and should I leaver it out with a couple of screwdrivers??

Try not to lever it out with anything that will damage the pump or case as it can cause more oil leaks , if you can pull the studs out it helps sometimes

  5. As above, you can lever, but watch you don't damage the case face (that rhymes :)) .

Tool not that expensive. You whip the pump gears off, stick the "horns" in the in & out holes and crank the screw. It pulls it out slowly.

  6. take the mounting studs out too- can't be too careful.

  7. cheers guys :)

I wanted to pull it out tomorrow .....so am a bit impatient to wait for a tool.....and to spend money on something I will hopefully not use again

do I have to take the gears out no matter what way I remove it?

....I assume they just pull out easily and go back in, in any orientation when replacing?

  8. The one I pulled a few weeks ago was a bugger (but I had the tool). Might be worth loosening a few case bolts. You've obviously got to make sure the inlet and outlet holes line up when replacing (or you'll suffer a strange lack of oil pressure :)).

    Easy enough job.

Definitely loosen the case bolts above and below the pump.
I made a puller, you like welding?
