i have a oil leak and would like your advice before taking the engine out in the vain hope its a crankcase oil seal only to find its a easier fix -- sorry best i can do picture wise at the mo -- all thoughts and advice very much appreciated , rgds Malc
Looks to me that it is your crankcase oil seal malc engine out job, how bad is it, I ran mine for a year and just kept topping the oil up before i fixed it
Not bad at the moment Neil but i have only run it around the block a couple of times -- Another pic soz its a rubbish position to photograph from-
Run it till it gets bad but keep a check on your oil level, untill i did mine it used about half a litre on a long run to cornwall
i vaguely remember doing one years ago , but we took the box out and did it from the gearbox side , i just don't remember why we did it that way -- i think we thought it was easier or were changing the clutch ???
I'd get a drop on my finger and sniff it first just in case it has the fishy smell of gear oil.... possibly the primary gear shaft oil seal passing by. Either way it would mean engine out but the shaft seal is much simpler to do than the crankcase seal.
Clean it up with white spirit and keep an eye on your oil level and the leak Then report back after a period of use If its only a slight weep over time it can wait untill your ready to do it
Yeah just run it n keep checking levels if not bad live with it but be careful as it might over time ruin you clutch as it gets soaked in oil.
call that an oil leak? you've never had a landrover then? stop being a queen and fill it up when it stops dripping (if it ain't leaking - it's empty) this was a landy forum standard reply
