oil bath filter... problem...?

  1. hi guys
i obtained a vw oil bath filter,
which i would like to fit onto my engine,
the capsule that operates the hot/cold air flap does not seem to have enough umpf to operate the flap
i heated it with a hot air gun and it barely moves when in place but will open more when its out of the filter on the bench,
does anyone know where i can get one .... ?

It's not controlled by the flap bit, but by a temp sensitive valve in the top of the oil bath. Maybe I read wrong and you knew this...

Not a big deal if it doesn't work in this climate.

  3. hi steve ..[ good to see ya back]

yea i have had the brass lookin valve out ,
a wax filled pellet thing i presume ...

i though i would try it,
i really want the filter, to draw the crankcase fumes pressure out of the oil filler ... ;)

Well it'll do that anyway, but if you know the thermostat is bust just don't connect the hot air input throught the tin to the cylinders or you may nbe running on permanent hot air which isn't good. if you leave off the corrugated tube whatever way it sucks will be the same air. I might have one going in a few weeks but I need it for a bit for my little engine until I get my engine back. Dunno if it works though...

  5. You'll need it connected to an engine vacuum source as well. It's the vacuum that does the flap-shifting work.
