My mates mum was manageress of the Hobbit garden club back in the 60s early 70s, I spent a lot of my time there watching bands set up and I remember seeing Genisis and not being all that impressed ( I was very young probably 12 or 13) but that is not the point of this post as you know I’m a big Bryan Ferry and Roxy music fan and always thought the very first time I’d seen Roxy was when they supported David Bowie in 72 at the Rainbow theatre well I was sent this by my mate yesterday and look at who supported Genisis December 71 at the gardens, only Roxy bloody Music, ok I don’t remember them but I sure was there
Some of the other bands I remember seeing at the gardens were Freddie and the dreamers, lindisfarne, Rory Gallagher, Nazareth, and my mate recons Gary Glitter
Reminds me of when I was at the gig in November 1989 and Nirvana were supporting Mudhoney and TAD - I vaguley remember being there, my brother still has the tickets for the gig.
Strange one but I remember thinking I would have liked to see budgie, then when I was having a look through some old programmes, there they were one of the support acts
Yep - It's amazing who were in support bands back in the day . I used to go to the Cavern in Liverpool in the early 60s (but missed the Beatles by a few months ) mainly to see old blues men like Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf and John lee Hooker - and later found out I had seen the support acts of John Mayall and Long John Baldry which included Eric Clapton. Peter Green and Rod Stewart amongst others.
