  1. getting things ready for a (wet) camping weekend in the bus, first proper one. Years ago i bought a roof rack before the camper was on the road (i've always been optimistic!). Anyhoo, i dug it out of the cellar and am having trouble straightening it up so went online to look for any instructions only to find that anything like mine in Just Kampers is called a '2 bow roof rack for rear of splits' :arrggh:

    i bought it secondhand from a chap with a bay and it was described as a bay one. i've never fitted it and am now thinking i never will. i'd be struggling on my own anyway but if it's too small I've got no hope and possibly a scratched roof!

    how will i know if it does/should fit????????????

    it's a bit squiff atm like a parallelogram so was loosening all bolts to try and shift it to no avail. am taking 3 people camping tomorrow.... :(

    Just pick up some ratchet straps for now. Those could pin a live rhino firmly to your roof and they're cheap.
    It's so nice to get that luggage out of the way too. I feel your pain.
    I've included a video just in case they have a different name over there and you haven't a clue what I'm talking about. One never knows.

  7. I am sure someone can help put the rack on? Maybe one of the people you are taking camping? You can get 2bow racks for a bay so maybe it's not wrong? Post a pic of the rack and see if someone here has the same.

  8. just woke up after a few hours sleep and read this thread, you chaps make me smile, laugh and feel less 'the sky's falling in' in equal measure; in response the the above posts;

    -mine's a devon pop top so not sure ratchets would do the job, would they just slide off the smooth roof.
    -i'm also amazed that it's the same term 'over there' ;)
    - i'm going to yorkshire to pick everyone else up so there is just me here on my own to sort the roofrack. it's not the guttering i'm worried about, it's lifting the thing (it's heavy) and putting through the windscreen and/or neighbours car!
    - the original idea was to take it in the back of the bus to yorkshire then have my brother help me put it on, but no point if it's never gonna fit. any way i could find out to check first without injury to myself or bus?

    the rack is the same one in JK but with chrome although i have a separate box of powder coated metal bits which have the same item number as this

    it's PANTS! and i've had bog all sleep, and the house needs cleaning, i still have'nt sorted my clothes to take nor curtains for the bus.
    ahhh, a relaxing birthday weekend camping..... :arrggh:

  9. It's a 2 person job to fit
    Put it on the back seat and fit it when you get there

  15. The only reason the JK site says fits rear of splits is because the front of them curves in more. If it fits the back of a split it should fit the front or back of a bay.
