  1. Looks like the Government is r=trying it again.....selling off assets to balance the books. If you think this is wrong, here's a petition to let the Government know

Having initally trained and worked in Forestry, I have seen both privately owned and publicly owned woodlands, and there needs to be both.

Privatisation will lead to less access and possibly more opportunistic woodland management techniques (heavier thinning/earlier felling to get money from a large investment).

The Forestry Commission was set up after the nations woodlands were devastated during WW1. The Government was tasked with not only restocking the nations woodlands, but providing a valuable reference point for all landowners as to good management for woodlands.

No matter what rules and regs they say they will put in place to protect access etc, landowners will find a way round them if it makes them money.

    Woodland rant over.................

  8. signed, ever been / lived in GERMANY ? well managed forests , i could drone on lots re how that country takes the "long"view on just about everything that benefits/effects the people,as you have said , this once great country really has become a banana republic/ not particularly well run casino.>(my short rant over, for now)

  9. So they've announced that the forests are to stay in perpetuity. U-turn No. 546. Why don't they think things through before announcing them and looking like pratts. Or is that a definition of a politician. We should all be very pleased.
