Morning all getting a little concerned about my type 4 1800 Its not been on the road since 2005 according to licence plates that came on it from the states This weekend it went legal so have been out and about in it The oil looked clean so left it alone and ran it about all seemed well after resetting the points But noticed a occasional smoke ing from the exhaust on Sunday I came up a slight incline hill and was loseing power with a lot of grey smoke stopped at the top of the hill with smoke comeing out every where the top of the engine seemed hot to touch Gave it ten mins and set of again and all Was well again got home no problems On the way home yesterday up the same hill slight smoke ing but nothing like Sunday but a brief loss of power talking a second at most then back on Takeing a second look at the oil it seems super thin to me My thoughts are a it's just burning the crud off from it standing time B the single webber carb is not set right C the oil s to thin D it's *****ed !!!
Try changing the oil first, but... When you say smoking do you mean from the exhaust? Could be valve guides or rings. Likely the guides on and old T4 engine. Yes to the rest as well but try a compression test to narrow it down.
What you reckon oil wise a thicker one zed like mentioned in the thread started by silver the other day for worn engines ? It was compression tested in the states before I brought it last year Yeah from the exhaust apart from on Sunday when it seemed To be from everywhere
Either rings or valve guides then. It's blowing back into the engine and the pressure is forcing oil out from somewhere + oil getting into the combustion chamber and burning.
