  3. Sat on Erith pier having our lunch the other day and a sign in front of us said...

" Life Aid may not be available due to vandalism "

Looked round and all of the life ring holders were empty, councils gotta cover it's posterior ::)

  5. As I'm sure you all know, in food production nuts are considered as being an airbourne allergen...

So, if nuts are used anywhere in the same factory, and sometimes in the adjacent factory any food stuff you produce has to legally say that it may contain nuts...presumably as they are 'airbourne' they could fly from the production line where they are and soar into the water or whatever it is you are producing...

Totally rediculous allegen rules and regs now, it seems de rigeur to have some kind of disease or allergy these days.

my original point was meant for stupid things that companies are putting to cover themselves, nuts in water? and as majorhangover said nuts in nuts? basically the warnings are pretty pointless.

  12. It's all to do with the American style sue everybody culture we have developed. Now there always has to be someone to blame. If tesco's didn't have the sign suing the nuts may contain nuts, someone with an allergy would argue they weren't told they were nuts as the packet says pistachios not nuts, then sue tesco's for millions.
It's a shame the level ass covering needed these days.
My favourite one was the yank that crashed his motorhome as he put the cruise control on and went in the back to make coffee. He argued that it didn't say in the manual not to do it and successfully sued. True or urban legend? I don't know but it's funny.

  14. Ok so explain the warning on take away coffee cups, warning contents may be hot

  16. The point of this thread is not to play down food allergies as they can be life threatening and therefore serious. I would not expect to find nuts etc in half the Products they are in and for people with allergies or intolerances then this is vital information when they are a hidden ingredient
Do we really need to be told that a bag of nuts may contain nuts and that coffee may be hot? only if the maker risks getting sued, that was my point

  18. All this seems very odd to me.

When I was a kid (50's - 60's) I went to a school which had around 300 pupils. Now I cant say I knew the personal medical records of every single one but I can clearly remember that there were only two kids who brought sandwiches for lunch and all the rest ate the school dinners. No vegetarians let alone allergies.

There were two kids who were overweight and one who suffered from asthma - these were excused some sports.

Now either something is going seriously wrong with the human race and the environment we choose to live in or all the people who have these many problems today must have died before ever reaching school age back then. Which is it?
