When putting a bus back together and needing general nuts n bolts n screws (excluding the specific important VW stuff), do you have to source the general stuff from an automotive supplier or can you just pop down to somewhere like B&Q and find everything you need? For example (one of hundreds), I've got to fit the delux seat bulkhead covers which require small screws.
We've got a fantastic little Ironmongers/Hardware store in town here. They'll find you anything you need or order in anything you want (even small quantity) and have even let me take a few different sizes away first to make sure I get the right size. Worth checking out some smaller firms as we'll as B&Q type retailers
You will find that small screws are really cheap at a proper fixings company, B&Q OK for an emergency but really expensive for those little blister packs. For non structural I have a selection of small metric screws, nuts and washers in stainless. Bit longer is OK as you can easily cut them down. Look up 'fixings & fastenings' in your local area and you will find the right supplier.
Abbey fasteners at Warndon i think ,decide what you need and you will get a big selection there for about the same price as a packet at a diy .
i raid the stores at work!!!!!!! also for none important stuff i reuse ones from work if we have done a rip out job!!!
Find a local fastener supplier. Much cheaper than B&Q etc, and much better stuff. I use AHC in Camberley. Or for stuff like self tappers etc, loads of places on eBay. Don't hold your suspension on with B&Q bits!
