Number Plate Lamp Problem

  1. I am just trying to fit the number plate lamp to my repainted engine lid and the new one doesn't fit.

The new one is from VW Heritage and marked up 68-72. Mine is a 1972 Crossdresser. The 73- version shows a lap with curved ends, wheras the one fitted has square ends.

On the picture the shiny new one looks the same as the old one, but is 10 mm shorter. Checking the numbers:

    New one = 211943161/D
    Old one = 211943161/E

The problem is that on VW Heritage web site the /E part number shows a picture of a lamp with rounded ends, not square as per the picture. VWH also have none in stock to check what they actually look like!

Anyone know the correct part / got a picture of a 73 on numberplate lamp to see if it has square or rounded ends? Also, anyone know where to get the part as it's not in stock at VWH.

  2. I didn't get the vw heritage description and picture when I bought one a week or so ago so JK was selling late bay square one very cheaply so got that instead, fits perfectly and came with new seal

    Cheers

  3. Is it 150 mm long? The 'wrong' one is 140 mm, the 'right' one 150 mm. If someone can check, I will press the order button!

  4. I will measure it tonight for you, if you do get the JK one don't order the seal as well like I did as it comes with it

  5. The JK one was 150mm by 30mm (just measured it!)

  6. Just measured the numberplate light on my '73, and it's 150mm long.

THe one with rounded ends is a Brazilian one, I think.
