Note to self......

  1. Here is my latest piece of advice, and whilst I know this might make me seem a bit dim, I don't mind that if it helps someone else..........so, recently on the way to and back from Bog bang I noticed I seemed to be struggling with lack if power, never been bad in the past unless towing the trailer when faced with hills its a right ball ache. anyway, decided to replace the ingition system, i.e dizzy cap, coil, ht leads, plugs and electronic ignition in the hope that it solved the problem..........so got it all fitted and after eventually getting it to run without cutting out I timed it up.............grrr musta spent 3 hours trying to get it timed right and still sounded like a bag of rusty spanners.................then, having taken a 2 day break this morning I was determined to sort it, first thing I did was check everything upon which I noticed a pipe disconnected on the pipes that seem to link the cylinders (no idea what they are) one pipe was off slightly causing air to blow out, put it back on ,and ran sweet as a nut ! so the moral of this story is, look for the simple things before blowing the best part of £130 odd quid on a flamethrower 2 coil, performance HT leads, Bosch super plugs and electronic ignition lol...............there again, bout time I changed them anyway and looks a bit more blingy.

  12. i had a similar thing happen to me years ago. one of the rubber elbows that connects to the ballancing tube between the two manifolds split and the idle and running was really bad till i found it. since ive always carried a reel of "self amalgamating tape"

its a rubbery tape that sticks to its self, got loads of uses .
i worked as an electrician for over 20 years and used it loads of times for various tasks.
anyway i use it still on various vacuume pipes to seal the ends along with loads of other crap as a "just in case" get you out of trouble item.
also you can now buy the replacement rubber parts. way back pre internet days and before the vw boom nothing was available really.
much like your rubber braided fuel lines, all vacuum lines need regular checking.
