A bit of a strange scenario, but most of the time my t2 turns on fine, but occasionally I turn the key & there is no turning over noise. I need to take this into a garage, but does anyone have any ideas from the above description?
Great thanks for the diagnosis, with that brief description! If it was to be one of those issues, are they costly repairs?
It depends really. Worst case scenario it would be a new starter which is around the £100 mark You could strip and clean the solenoid and starter depending on your mechanical skills
what year is your bay, they also suffer from faulty ignition switches which are about 6 quid from gsf
Yup could be a ingnition switch on its way out mine did this for a while before packing up alltogether
my bay was manufactured in 1972. Is it worth picking up an ignition switch & changing that first to identify if the problem still exists? I guess for £6 its worth a shot
show me a picture of your ignition where the key goes into it, your may have the earlier type which cost £35
Ive got a new earlier type ignition switch here if you need it It was bought in error as my bus had the later plug connecting type switch
If you turn the key and get nothing sometimes then it`s probably the 12v wire that goes to the starter motor or you ignition switch.. the 12v wire corrodes/ages and instead of pushing 12v to the starter over time pushes less ,so it`s a gamble when you turn the key...
