Noisy wipers that do not park. Repairable?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Fronkjunior, Jul 16, 2013.

  1. Hi, my wipers have stopped 'parking' and just stop when I switch them off. Is this repairable or is a new motor needed? They have also started making a noise in use. They creak like mad, even when off the screen. Does something need lubricating or adjusting?

    Thanks all.

  2. If they move, it's not the motor. Off with the wipers, whip the mech out from behind the dash and un-sieze everything. Strip the wiper motor to clean up the park switch contacts. This assumes you haven't made any wiring changes.

  3. Thanks for the reply. No wiring changes, was all working fine. Is stripping the motor tricky or not? I suppose it will be detailed in the trusty Haynes manual......

  4. Nope, it's easy peasy. Wrestling the mech out from under the dash is a bit of a struggle, but perfectly doable. Disconnect battery, glovebox out, heater "antler" trunking out, unplug mech, mech out.

A good wiper overhaul is a good thing to do anyway :)

Have look to see if its catching on the front panel, turn them on and stick yer head below the dash the arm from the motor may be catching on something. If so turn them off before sticking your hand up to fix it.
